Reading

We research facts about the Moa.

I used pic collage to present my facts

and here is more facts about the Moa.

They couldn’t fly

There were about 10 different species

Most lived in forest, not grassland

Moa (singular and plural) is pronounced MORE, not MOWER

They fell into holes in limestone country and their skeletons lie there, waiting to be discovered by cavers.

Scientists have looked at fossils which show contents of a moa's gizzard (part of its stomach) and they have even studied moa coprolites (fossilised poo!) to work out what they ate.

So over millions of years, the moa’s wings became smaller, their bodies bigger and heavier and they strode through the forest instead of flying.

What I found interesting was There were about 10 different species

Activating prior knowledge

For reading w/s we are learning to Activate our prior knowledge.
I got a photo to show you.
We are learning about Shetland ponies.
We wrote down all of the things that we already knew about ponies. This helps our reading because we can draw on information we know to figure out words.
Then we wrote down things that we learned after reading the story.
